Alaa Mohasseb

I am Module Leader for the Applied Intelligent Data and Text Analytics module of the online MSc in Data Analytics.

I am a lecturer in Computer Science at the School of Computing and a member of the computational intelligent research group.

My research is in the field of Text Mining, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning. I have collaborated with researchers in several other disciplines and participated in multiple academic and industrial projects.

I am a member of several program committees for international conferences and workshops. I also chaired various conference sessions and organised a special session on Data Mining and Machine Learning Applications for Cyber Security at the 16th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies - WEBIST 2020.

I was a keynote speaker at the Women in Data Science (WiDS 2018) Conference, UK, and a panellist for Women in Science and Technology: Experiences which took place at INTAP’20 conference, Norway.

Career highlights

  • Receiving my PhD from the University of Portsmouth and becoming a Lecturer
  • Presenting academic papers at several international conferences and having papers published in several academic journals
  • Being awarded the bronze prize in the annual international competition for best Research & Innovation project in Cyber Security, run by the Korean Industrial Technology Security Hub
