Phil Crook

I joined the University of Portsmouth after a 30-year career in the UK Fire and Rescue Service. This included secondments to the UK National Resilience Project, being a member of the UK International Search and Rescue Team, working with the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the UN Simulation and Training Network.

In addition to being the Course Leader for the online MSc Risk, Crisis and Resilience Management, I am also a teaching fellow in other postgraduate risk management subjects and in Crisis and Disaster Management.

  • Deploying on behalf of the UK to a number of international disasters as part of a search and rescue emergency response.
  • Leading projects in designing and implementing the nationally coordinated UK response to large-scale urban search and rescue incidents.
  • Collaborating with research colleagues to produce and publish peer reviewed studies examining various aspects of large-scale emergency response exercises.
