Studying online

Our part-time, online courses are delivered entirely online and are designed to fit around you. You won’t need to move house or get a visa to study with us.

Plus, to ensure the course fits around your lifestyle and commitments, all of our course modules are divided into manageable weekly sections.

You can access your course from anywhere in the world through Moodle, our easy-to-use Digital Learning Environment (DLE). If you'd like to have a personalised demo of the platform, book a meeting with one of our friendly course advisers

When you start your course, you’ll have access to our student adviser team. They’re available via phone or Moodle to answer your practical queries about online study. They’re also your go-to for tips on maintaining a healthy study/life balance and accessing specialist University support services.

For any questions relating directly to your studies, you'll be able to turn to our teaching team. They'll be happy to explain module content, learning activities, feedback, and more.

No. When you graduate from the University of Portsmouth via an online course, your degree certificate will look identical to a student who studied on campus. Your degree will have the same academic weight as an on-campus degree.

All you need is a reliable internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer. All the course materials and activities you need to study with us are available on Moodle, our Digital Learning Environment (DLE). Moodle is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

No, you won't receive a timetable. This is because with Portsmouth Study Online courses, you can study on the days and times that suit you best. Learning activities and forum discussions can be fitted in around your job and other commitments. Every week, you'll have the option to join a live webinar, but these are all recorded and can be watched back at any time.

Of course - while you may be studying remotely, you're still as much a part of the Portsmouth Community as anyone else. If you're able to attend graduation on our campus, we'd love to have you with us to celebrate your achievement.

Applications

You can find information about the qualifications you need for your Master’s course on its specific course page. We understand that not everybody arrives at their postgraduate education in the same way, so if you have relevant professional experience in your chosen subject area and want to apply based on that experience, we'll still consider your application.

We offer three course start dates a year: January, May and September. For some courses, we offer additional start dates in March and November. You have the flexibility to decide on the best start date for you.

Application deadlines are listed on the relevant course pages. But it’s worth getting your application in as early as possible to ensure you’ve got time to assemble your documents, make additional arrangements if you receive a conditional offer, and prepare for your course.

If you need help getting ready to apply, don't hesitate to reach out to our course adviser team. They're here to guide you through the entire process and can offer advice on creating a strong application.

Check the application process page for detailed information on what you need to submit. All your documentation can be submitted online, so you'll only need to share scanned copies.

Please keep in mind that if any of your documents, such as previous qualifications, are printed in a language other than English, you'll need to provide certified copies of transcripts as well.

You can get in touch with our course adviser team by phoning +44(0)23 9431 1545, or emailing info@study-online.port.ac.uk to ask about your application’s progress.

Typically, you'll receive a decision on your application via email within 10 working days. If you have questions along the way, you can speak with one of our course advisers on +44(0)23 9431 1545, or email info@study-online.port.ac.uk to check the progress of your application.
